In January 2016 the government changed the laws regarding immunizing your child, whether or not parents agree with these new laws is irrelevant, what is relevant is how the new laws may affect your child care options and quite possibly your child care payments.
The mere mention of immunizing your child is enough to get an immediate reaction and is a big debate in Australia. In fact all over the modern world moms and dads and organizations will give their opinion and why it’s essential for children to be immunized, or not.
Why should children be immunized?
It’s part of your child’s health and some diseases if caught can have a devastating and disabling effect (some resulting in death). Obviously if your child is immunized this will give your child immunity to such risks and protect them from suffering the adverse effects of that disease.
While most parents opt to vaccinate their children, there are a small group that choose not to, for whatever reasons. That is fine too, vaccinating your child is not compulsory, parents have a choice.
However in January 2016 the laws were changed, and if you want to send your child to any child care centers on the Gold Coast, your child must be immunized. This goes for all forms of child care, pre-school and long day care.
What your child care center may require for enrollment?
- Immunization history/statement
- If your child is not immunized for medical reasons the appropriate documentation is required
- If your child is not up-to-date with their immunizations the necessary documents must show they have either caught up, or a recognized catch-up schedule needs to be provided.
If your child is not immunized the child care center may choose to:
- Refuse enrolment
- Cancel enrolment
- It could affect your child care payments and options at child care centers across the Gold Coast
Alternatively for additional information regarding immunizing your kids and how it might affect your child care options, the best bet is to get in contact with Department of Human Services to get the facts.
